Finding a hotel with an accessible computer allows me to upload some photos we´ve taken. So the words will be few in this one, and the pictures many.
For starters, here are some of the volcanoes in the area around Antigua:
After Antigua, we visited Chichicastenango (see my blog on religious observances) and braced ourselves against the onslaught of celebratory fireworks.
But we moved to Lake Atitlan - the deepest lake in Central America. I was formed as the caldera of a massive volcano, and has more recent volcanos around it. Also, it has several towns. We based ourselves in San Pedro for five nights, and hiked or boated to nearby towns.
One of those towns is Santiago (a site of Maximon cult, described in earlier blogs). But the day we were there women were lining up for the pre-Christmas food handouts from the local government.
Now we´ve left Atitlan for the jungle lowlands. But we haven´t left the vulcanism of the area. Today we drove out to a local swimming hole where hot water pours over a waterfall.
And here is an unstructured set of shots of some of the people of Guatemala:
But home still seems to follow us
