Avi at Or Shalom

 

I have been active in all parts of the Or Shalom services for many years.  Starting in 2020 (and Covid) we began to stream our services by Zoom and later by livestream.  Starting in 2024, many of those services have been saved to the Or Shalom channel on YouTube.

December 28, 2024.   Torah service

            Torah service begins (sort of) at 1:23:30  and again at 1:25:00

January 18, 2025.   Torah service

            Torah service begins at 1:12:00 socially, and at 1:17:25 liturgically.   Text: Egypt, we meet Moses, he gets the call from God

            (** 1:29:24     First Aliya – Moses, doubts, failure and Bar(t) Mitzvah kids)

            Followed by an aliya looking at death, blood and redemption, and a final aliyah looking at political leadership and hope.

 

 

Feb 1, 2025.   Torah service & Dvar Torah

            Torah service begins at 1:26:40.          Text: 9 plagues down, we prepare for the big Number Ten

Feb 22, 2025.   Shacharit   (for Jane Heyman’s adult bat mitzvah  -  note: Jane is a pillar of the local theatre scene)

            Shacharit begins at 24:10.  Some greeting time.  Then resumes at 26:35

April 12, 2025.   Shacharit & Torah Service

            Shacharit begins at 24:00.  Our first service in our temporary home inside a local church.

            Pesach begins tonight, so the service takes a break (explained at 38:30) to step outside and eat (41:50 until 51:20) and the Sim Shalom prayer (at 1:15:20) includes a pre-Seder look at the Four Children as the Israel/Gaza war continues.

            Torah Service begins at 1:23:30.   The first Aliyah (1:28:45) I discuss the divergent stories concerning matzah.  Second Aliyah is for fabric artists.

            Dvar Torah begins at 1:54:40.    Technology. Clothing. Public space. Identity.

 

 

August 16, 2025.   Torah service & Dvar Torah   (during Israel/Gaza war)

            First aliya (1:12:53) is on Jewishness as a spiritual path.

September 20, 2025.   Torah service & Dvar Torah

            Torah service begins at 1:09:45 but commentary starts at 1:13:15. Some personal thoughts about history (mine and Moses) & discouragement. First aliya (1:15:50) – for those facing something new.   Second aliya (1:25:40) – for those who take to the streets for social change (with an invitation to join me today).  Third Aliya (1:33:45) is for healing
